About Cavoodles
Nature & Temperament
Words most associated with the Cavoodle breed is intelligent, affectionate, friendly, adaptable and easy-going. They combination of a Cavalier and Poodle means that these pups tend to bring the loyalty of both. That is not to say that all Cavoodles are the same. Each pup has their own unique and wonderful personality which really sets your chosen pup apart from all the rest,
Training & Intelligence
Cavoodles usually possess the intelligence commonly associated with poodles. As a generalisation, Cavoodles love to learn new tricks and commands and with their gorgeous eyes and teddy bear looks, they make every action as cute as possible. Regular training is always encouraged, usually recommended to start at a young age, and your pup’s ability to learn tricks is normally a reflection of the time the Fur Parent has put in.
Shedding & Grooming
With the addition of the poodle genetics, Cavoodles are usually low to non shedding. Even though shedding is minimal their soft curly or wavy coat still requires regular brushing (minimum of once per week). This at home grooming helps keep their coats tangle-free and fluffy. How you cut/trim your pup is always up to you, you can have you Cavoodle cut professionally or you can learn at home (there are many good quality pet clippers at a reasonable price).
Size & Colour
As a generalisation, a Toy Cavoodle (Sired by a Toy Poodle) will stand anywhere from 25 to 35cm tall. They can weigh approximately 5 to 8kg (weight is usually a direct reflection of exercise and feeding routines) - be wary of the adorableness so you don’t end up giving them a treat whenever they look at you.
Cavoodles can be born in a range of beautiful colours including; gold, cream, red/tan, black or brown. They can also present with a wide range of markings that will further make your pup unique. There is limited scope to try and whelp a litter of a specific colour as this is dependent on the colour and genetic history of the Sire and Dame. However, we cannot and will not promise a certain litter colour.
First-Generation Cavoodle
Compass Cavoodles purvey first-generation Cavoodles and first-generation Cavoodles only. The benefit to breeding a cross-breed dog is that there is scope to minimise genetic diseases that pure-bred dogs tend to carry. This disease minimisation applies less and less when you do not breed the pure-bred Toy Poodle and Pure-bred Cavalier, i.e. second and third generation Cavoodles. we do not use Cavoodles in any type of breeding program - we use Cavalier Dames and Toy Poodle Sires.
Origins
The first recorded litter of a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and Poodle mating came from down under in the 1990s. That’s right, the first ones came from right here in Australia. You may also hear a Cavoodle referred to as a Cavapoo or Cavadoodle. Even though designer breeds are not as highly regarded as their pure-bred cousins, since their first appearance Cavoodles and other ‘hybrid’ breeds have grown increasingly popular in the UK and US.
